15 views8 pages

Document Summary

Perception: process by which individuals organize and interpret their impressions in order to give meaning to their environment, what we perceive can often be different than reality. It"s important because people"s behavior is based on their perception of what reality is, not on reality itself (job interviews) Factors influencing perception: the perceiver: when you (the perceiver) look at target and attempt to interpret what you see. Characteristics that affect perception include attitudes, motives, interests, experience, & expectations: the target: target"s characteristics also affect what we perceive. Novelty, motion, sounds, size, background and proximity shape the way we see the target. We look at the relationship of the target to its background in our perception: the situation: the time at which we see an object or event can influence attention, as can location, light or other situational factors. Ex: seeing people at night club scantily clad and then at work.
