The capacity of a person, team or organization to influence others. Power is not the act of changing someone"s attitude or behavior is the potential to do it. They might don"t know the posses the power. The less powerful person still has a degree of power over the power holder. E. g. manager tells employee what to do or a prime minister. A felt obligation to help someone who helped you before. Ability to influence others by possessing knowledge or skills valued. People like you, respect you or identify with you. Power is the strongest when u have a monopoly over a valued resource. It decreases as the number of alternatives rises. Nonsubstitutability is strengthen by controlling access to the resource/alternative. Refers to the power holder"s importance based on the level of interdependence between the power holders and others. Making decision without referring to specific rules or receiving permission from someone else (middle manager example).
