Mental illnesses account for a large percentage of hospital stays every yr causing as many lost days at work as physical problems ie: cancer, heart attack or back pain. Mental health and mental disorder are measured on two separate continuums. Major detriment for persons with mental illness is the stigma and associated alientation and discrimination and inhibit them from seeking help and support in the community.
