MHR 405 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Absenteeism, Job Security, Job Satisfaction
Document Summary
Cognition: a person"s thoughts and actions are governed primarily or exclusively by logical thinking. Emotions have significant influence in the workplace since they occur before cognitive processes. Emotions: physiological, behavioural and psychological episodes experienced towards an object, person or event that creates a state of readiness; directed towards someone or something. Episodes brief events that subside of occur in waves lasting from milliseconds to a few minutes. Moods: state of mind that isn"t directed towards anything in particular and tend to be longer term emotional state valence. Two common emotion features: all emotions have associated (core affect) that signals the perceived object or even that should be approached or avoided. All emotions evaluate environmental conditions as good or bad, helpful or harmful, positive or negative. Valence asymmetry likely occurs because negative emotions protect us from harm and more critical for survival: emotions vary in their level of activation. Emotions put people in state of readiness; the primary source of motivation.
