Document Summary
Firms in the past used 2 main types of networks: Telephone networks- built by telephone companies throughout the twentieth century using voice transmission technologies. Computer networks- built by computer companies seeking to transmit data between computers and different locations. These two networks are converging into a single digital network using shared internet- based standards and equipment. They both are become more powerful, more portable, and less expensive. Broadband is a high speed transmission technology which also designates a single communications medium that can transmit multiple channels of data simultaneously. Computer networks are used to connect two or more employees together in the same office. A network consists of two or more connected computers. Each computer on the network contains a network interface device to link the computer to the network. The connection method can be a telephone wire, coaxial cable, or radio signal in the case of cell phone and wireless local area networks.
