Children are growing up in more diverse living arrangements. Mothers and fathers are more likely to be absent from the home. Extended family are less involved, even in a crisis. Recreation, spirituality, and education take place outside the home. Children become acquainted with the adult world through tv. Young people lack a sense of being tied emotionally to other people, of sharing commitments to common values, and do not see themselves as part of society.
