Health psych is devoted to understanding psychological influences on how people stay healthy, why they become ill and how they respond when they get ill. Who defined health as a complete state of physical, mental, and social well- being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity : an achievement involving balance among physical, mental, and social well being. Health psychologists focus on health promotion and maintenance, which includes how to help children develop good habits, how to promote regular exercise and how to design media campaigns to get people to improve their diets. Also study psychological aspects of prevention and treatment of illness: ex treating stress effectively, designing programs to encourage uptake of cancer screening behaviours or with people who are ill to help them adjust/follow their regimen.
