BIOL 321 Chapter Notes - Chapter 14: Florida Scrub, Corticosterone, Spatial Memory
Document Summary
Habitat choice is a question of how animals distribute themselves in space and time with respect to some resources in their environment. The ifd is used to : predict how individuals should first settle into habitats, predict the equilibrium frequency of individuals in different patches. Ifd model predicts that the equilibrium distribution of individuals into patches should be that distribution at which at which if any individual moved from the patch it was in it would suffer reduced payoff. Animals may reduce the risk of infection from patristic disease by producing offspring in habitats with low parasite levels: this is commonly seen in amphibians. When rats were injected with corticosterone the rats showed impaired memory when they tried to find the platform. Safety from predators and suitable temperature are the most important attributes of a desirable territory. Juvenile a. aeneus watch other lizards, hypothesis is that they might be determining territory quality as a result of interactions with conspecifics.
