On blackboard you will find some selections from the federalist, a series of short essays published while the american founding fathers were arguing about what kind of constitution to create for their new country. Keep in mind that democracy had not really existed in the western world for thousands of years and that the population of america seemed much too big for any familiar notion of democracy to work. The first piece is by hamilton (the same character that features in the hit broadway play). Give a false bias to the judgment. So we see wise/good men on the wrong and right side of questions. The most well-known and important piece is federalist no. Union would break + control violence of faction which is a (cid:498)dangerous vice(cid:499) Two ways of removing the causes of factions (political parties: 1) destroy liberty essential to their existence form different opinions.
