Number of different combinations is theoretically larger than the number of elementary particles in the universe. Average cortical neuron has between 1 and 10,000 connections with other neurons. Dualism saw the mind as separate from the brain, existing outside our biology but controlling our actions/thoughts. The physical brain was a connection between mind and body. Modern neuroscientists now try to understand how the biological brain produces the mental processes of the mind. Neurons organized into signalling pathways to communicate via synaptic transmission. Dendrites projections that reach out to other neurons and receive signals to be relayed through the dendritic branch to the cell body. Some signals will go on to be conveyed down axon. Axon long fiber that varies in length (up to 1 meter from spine to bottom of feet) Axon terminal/terminal bouton terminal boutons reach out and make connections with receptive zone of nearby neurons to transmit signal further. Glial cells support, nourish, and provide insulation for neurons.
