Conformity is generally beneficial to ourselves and to others. Undergrads took part in two 10 mins sessions in which they described various photographs from popular magazines such as newsweek and time with another participant (a confederate) In one session confederate shook his or her foot or rub his or her face. They were videotaped to determined if they tended to behave like the confederate. Participants tended to mimic the behavior exhibited by the confederate.
