Reality is subjecive, a product of our construal of the social world. Our self is, in part, a product of our construals. William james introduced many concepts of the self. Coined the term social me that refers to the part of self-knowledge derived from social relaionships. The self is not something to be disinguished from the social world, but rather that it"s a social enity through and through. Who a person is in one social context is oten not the same as who the person is in another social environment. Introspecion: a major source of self-understanding is ourselves. Mcadams claim we are coninually telling a story about ourselves as we live our lives. Has seings, characters, plot twists and turns, dramaic themes, . We construct self-narraives to integrate our goals, make sense of conlict and to explain how we change over ime. Our understanding of the social world, including ourselves, is oten shaped by construal processes.
