Group - two or more people interacting interdependently to achieve a common goal. Formal work group - established by organization to facilitate org. goal achievement. Task forces and project teams: temporary groups that meet to achieve particular goals or to solve particular problems. Committee: usually permanent group that handles recurrent assignments outside usual work group structures. Informal - emerges naturally in response to common organizational members" interests. Storming : conflict usually happens, sorting out roles and responsibilities. Norming : members resolve issues provoked in storming and develop social consensus. Performing : with social structure sorted out, group devotes energies toward task. Adjourning : can have ceremonies and parties. P. e. model - group development model describing how groups with deadlines affected by their first meetings and crucial midpoint transitions. Begins with first meeting and continues until midpoint in group"s existence. Critical in setting agenda for what will happen in remainder of this phase. Group makes little visible progress toward goal.
