Nature and extent of sexual violence on par with homicide in terms of how perpetrators are vilified. 2011: 21,821 sexual assaults against adults reported, 63 per 100,000 pop, slight drop. 2011: 3822 against children, 11 per 100,00, slight increase: majority don"t report. High victim rates were reported, with rapists having ~7 victims, female-victim child molesters having 20 victims, and male-victim child molesters ~150 victims: 10% to 20% of male university students reported sexually assaulting women or children. 16. 5% had ptsd 15 years after the rape effective programs have been developed: christiansen, bak, elklit: found many secondary victims reported having difficulties figuring out how to support the rape victim, and ~25% has symptoms of ptsd.
