Motivation: a person"s internal drive to act. Need to motivate employees so that they are committed and productive. Intrinsic reward: the good feeling you have when you have done a job well (e. g. belief that your work makes a sig"t contribution to the organization/society) Extrinsic reward: something given to you by someone else as recognition for good work; extrinsic rewards include pay increase, praise, and promotions (e. g. pay increases, praise, promotions, etc. ) The principles of scientific management frederick taylor, 1911. Goal was to increase worker productivity to benefit firm & worker. Scientific management: studying workers to find the most efficient ways of doing things and then teaching people those techniques. 3 elements (1) time; (2) methods; (3) rules of work. Most important tools = observation & stopwatch. Time-motion studies: studies of which tasks must be performed to complete a job and the time needed to do each task.
