Document Summary
Art/artist same in the nightingale & the shadow, but just different outcome. Art gives life to the shadow, who ends up being a very malevolent (malicious) character. Nightingale has full view- will sing good & bad- while shadow does not. Scholar does not give in to the shadow"s will; momentary triumph/victory. Had the shadow seen the entire house of poetry, maybe it would"ve had a greater understanding. The emperor"s new clothes ends w/emperor acts like a fool. In nightingale, emperor starts out as a fool but ends up good- knowing the difference between good & evil. Scholar is suspect; does not even recognize who poetry is & only understands the world. Doesn"t quite understand shadow"s manipulation until the end when he wakes up & realizes what the shadow"s all about. Slightly uncomplicated: d/n want to marry rasmussen, description of her house; everything is insulated, gives him praise w/o even knowing what he"s writing about.
