Art gives life to the shadow in the story. It is a dark story, but with momentary triumph at the end: at the end, the scholar doesn"t give what the shadow wants. The emperor starts off as a normal bourgeois who doesn"t get reality: but then becomes a new emperor after the nightingale saves him. He is not a very good scholar, because he can"t even recognize poetry. He only knows half the world: the good and the beautiful. He is asleep in the sense that he doesn"t realize what the shadow is doing: but at the end he wakes up and realizes it. The idea that the life of man can be exhibited in the weather: ex: born in spring, thrive in summer, die in winter. As seen in: the gardener and his master : the gardener represents the new wants a garden in the romantic style. The will-o-wisps are in town the bog witch said .
