A commercial broadcast station: an entity that holds a license from the federal government (fcc), transmits programs ota and carries commercial messages to promote products. Stations are licensed by the fcc, but owned by private enterprises (regulated by the government: can be affiliated with a network but owned by one. Most radio and tv stations are group owned: still have to have individual fcc licenses for each station. Some stations are o&os (owned and operated) but most are program content providers. Fcc does not license networks as program providers but does regulate networks in their role as station owners. Amazon etc those are legal ways to distribute their programming. Issues with stations and networks: reducing or eliminating network compensation for affiliate stations.
