Document Summary

Your knowledge about the world is limited by what you perceive. This demonstration shows that while our perceptual abilities are incredibly acute in many ways, they are also heavily constrained in others. This leads to the common and popular observation that things are not always what they seem. Change blindness (the empire state building moving demonstration) Perception: top-bottom: perception is our link and access to the world (how we know about our surroundings based on the information we perceive from our senses) Everything that you know about this world is by the various forms of perception. Artists use perception to display a realistic view in a 2d image: perception is our construction of our reality. Everything that we perceive is something that our brain had to work very hard to construct that representation. The reason that i see something is because that is a representation that our brain constructed for us: sense of 3d space/distance.
