Prejudice: feelings toward a group and its individual members; can be negative/positive. Discrimination: behavior toward a group or its members, simply due to group membership; can be negative/positive. Stereotypes: overgeneralized beliefs about the attributes of a group of people; can be negative/positive. Inaccurate or accurate at the group level. From the perspective of a psychologist, it doesn"t matter if they are accurate or not, just that they exist. Difficult to determine if a stereotype is accurate or not. Stereotypes can"t be accurately applied to every member of a group. You don"t have to personally believe a stereotype to know it exists. Beliefs about how a group is viewed in society. You may or may not personally agree with them. Beliefs you think a particular group has. Everyone knows the stereotype; reinforced by others. Belief about what is commonly done in a given social environment (descriptive norm)
