Whites and blacks: ethnic group, group that identifies with a common national origin or cultural heritage, includes, language, geographic roots, customs, food, traditions, ex. Puerto ricans and chinese: racial ethnic groups, people who have distinctive physical and cultural characteristics, includes both physical and cultural traits, ex. Racism: belief that one"s own racial group is superior to other groups, justifies the interest of the dominate group. Prejudice: an attitude that prejudges people, usually in a negative way, who are different from us in race, ethnicity, or religion, anyone can be prejudice. Stereotype: an oversimplified or exaggerated generalization about a category of people, can be positive or negative, distort reality. Scapegoats: individuals or groups whom people blame for their own problems, minorities are typically the targets because, they typically look different, are usually to powerless to strike back. Attitudes vs action: attitude, prejudice, stereotypes, scapegoating, action, discrimination.
