Entomophobia is the excess fear of insects. most insects are not harmful to humans, yet those affected with entomophobia get anxiety when they think or see anything to do with insects. The constant feeling of being bit by insects. Getting physically sick at the sight of insects. Constant feeling of being powerless over environment. Medical conditions and trauma- syphilis, meningitis, cirrhosis, fluoride poisoning, adrenal insufficiency, hyperthyroidism, folate deficiencies, thiamine deficiencies, mental retardation, anxiety disorders have been associated with entomophobia. Looking at some psychological factors, divorce, loss of jobs, and the loss of a loved one has been seen to cause the fear of insects. Depression- people who are depressed seem to have no motivation for anything, and they suffer from lower self esteem. this has been seen to correlate with entomophobia. schizophrenia has also been seen to be related with entomophobia. Age- it is more likely to be found in older women, and younger men.
