Document Summary

Natural selection: according to darwin, only select organisms that are best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit certain traits in the population while those less adapted tend to be eliminated. Relationship between natural selection and evolution: both involve all species, genetic traits, changes over generations, population not individuals, occur due to change in environment, require extensions or deaths. Process of natural selection/ adaptations- guppies: males have brighter spots to attract females but also attracts predator . Experiment placed three sets of male and female guppies in 3 different ponds: one contained no predator , one group that preyed on preys on speci cally guppies, and one in which the predator doesn"t speci cally feed on guppies. Coloration is inherited by fathers ---males in the ponds containing no predators or predators that do not eat guppies had signi cantly more spots than the males that shared their pond with a guppy predator.
