Document Summary

Midterm review from the class (an intro to music tech chps 1-5) Using an eq for electronic timbre, resonance affects timbre acoustically. Partials and overtones (when a note is struck, a fundamental and its frequencies that fall in a pattern with it) Each frequency is referred to as a partial. Overtones are partials over the fundamental note filters. All other frequencies over a certain part/freq will get through. All other frequencies below a certain part will get through. At a point, a filter applies to all frequencies at that point and beyond (at the edges of an eq), reaches certain point then flattens out. Used for middle freqs, frequencies in that range are boosted or cut. Q: the measurement for bandwidth, tells us the range of freqs that ll be affected by the eq. Time based effects: changed the signal in time, copying a signal and playing it back on itself.
