Study guide for exam #1 (please write your answers in non bold . Lecture and the slide number that you found your answer on. If you found the answer in the book, please say the page number) What is a gene, codon, nucleus, nucleotide, dna, ribosome: A gene may be composed of thousands of dna bases. Codon: triplets of messenger rna bases that code for specific amino acids during protein synthesis. Each sequence of 3 bases is a codon. Nucleus: place where the dna is located. Dna is composed of two chains of nucleotides. A structure ( organelle) found in eukaryotic cells. Nucleotide: a nucleotide consists of a sugar, a phosphate, and one of four nitrogenous bases (l5, slide 4). Held together by bonds formed on their bases. Dna: composed of two chains of nucleotides. The double stranded molecule that contains the genetic code. Ribosome: structures composed of a form of rna called ribosomal rna (rrna)and protein.
