Document Summary

Learning-any relatively durable change in behavior or knowledge that is due to experience. Learning is not an exclusive human process (many discoveries were originated in studies of animals). The principals that explain learned responses in animals explain much of human learning. Conditioning-involves learning connections between events that occur in an organism"s environment. Phobias-are irrational fears of specific objects or situations. Mild phobias are common (elevators, tunnels, heights, dogs, cats, bugs, snakes,) Classical conditioning-a type of learning in which a stimulus acquires the capacity to evoke response that was originally evoked by another stimulus. The process was originally called: pavalovian conditioning (first described by ivan pavlov 1903) He was one of those responsible for turning psyc from research focusing on subjective accounts of experience, introspection to a more objective, rigorous scientific approach. >his work showed how stimuli in the external world controlled our behavior.
