Elidel (pimecrolimus) 1% Cream
- Topical Calcineurin Inhibitor
2. Indication
- Used in the treatment of mild to moderate
Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
(inflammation of the skin)
- Will relieve itching, inflammation, and
redness of eczema & make affected skin
areas less inflamed and more
comfortable- should take effect within 1
week
- Second-line therapy for short-term/
intermittent long-term therapy of eczema
- Useful in patients where other dermatitis
treatments are not advised or are ineffective
- *Only indicated for non-
immunocompromised patients, 2 years old+
3. Instructions
- Wash and dry hands before applying Elidel
1% cream. It is for external use only- if it
gets in eyes, nose, or mouth, wipe it off and
rinse with water until fully cleared.
- Ensure skin is clean and dry before
application. Apply a thin layer of cream to
sufficiently cover the affected skin area
twice daily (about 12 hours apart). Rub
in thoroughly. Apply only to the skin
region your doctor has diagnosed as
eczema and only as directed by your
doctor. Wash hands after applying the
cream
- May be used on all skin surfaces, including
the head, neck, and intertriginous areas
(regions where skin meets skin- armpits,
between fingers, etc.)
- This Cream should be used for short or
long intermittent periods of treatment.
Therapy should be stopped upon

dermatitis (e.g. itching, inflammation and
redness).
- Treatment should be discontinued if
resolution of disease occurs.
- Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, apply it
once you remember unless you’re closer to
the next dose. In which case, just wait and
apply the next scheduled dosage. Don’t
double dose the cream.
- If no improvement occurs after 3 weeks of
treatment, or in case of disease
exacerbation, discontinue therapy and
consult your physician
4. Side Effects & Interactions
Side Effects:
- Most common side effect- burning feeling
or a sensation of warmth at the site of
application. This is usually mild to moderate
and temporary, occurring within 5 days of
treatment, and usually cleared up in the first
few days of using ELIDEL.
- See your doctor if an application site
reaction is severe or persists for more than
1 week.
IMPORTANT: UV INTERACTION
***Elidel makes skin more sensitive to
UV- Avoid sunlight and sun lamps,
tanning salons, and treatment with UVA
or UVB light. If you need to be outdoors
after applying ELIDEL, wear clothing that
protects the treated area from the sun***
- Another common side effect is a mild to
moderate headache- can use an over-the-
counter pain relievers like Advil, Aspirin, or
Tylenol to treat the headache
