Information to be discussed with patient: name, strength and dosage form of medication. 250 mg/ 5 ml (in a variety of flavours) Used to otitis media (which is an infection of the middle ear) Amoxicillin belongs to the group of medications known as antibiotics, specifically to the family of antibiotics known as penicillins. It is used to treat infections caused by certain types of bacteria. It kills some types of bacteria that can cause infections of the ear. Mild-to-moderate: oral: 500 mg every 12 hours or 250 mg every 8 hours. Severe: oral: 500 mg every 8 hours. Note: ear infections are often considered severe. Acute otitis media: children >3 months and <40 kg (88 lbs): oral: 80-90 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours. For children >2 years, 5 days of treatment is as effective as 10 days of treatment. For children 2 years, treatment duration is 10 days. Symptoms should start to be alleviated after the 3rd day!
