Structural functionalism: a macroeconomic approach to looking at a family, which believes that the family is an institution (among others) that can promote the values of the dominant culture through socialization of the family. The family is thus in charge of: reproduction, social placement, economic support, and social support. Family systems theory: can be both macro and micro in scope, but looks at how individuals in the family interact with one another. The impact of one individual can effect all others. Potenital for victim blaming because of the directionality of connections. Ecological theory: different systems interact to effect the individual. Meso-system: how different aspects of the microsystem interact.
