The myelin sheath is usually around only the axon of a neuron. It is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system. Myelin is an outgrowth of a type of glial cell. The production of the myelin sheath is called myelination. Inner mitochondrial membrane: membrane surrounding the mitochondrial matrix. Covalent: bond formed by electrons sharing between atoms. Hydrophobic: non- polar substances, water hating , is embedded within the membrane, away from aqueous environment.
