Marks earliest fossil appearance of many major groups of living animals. All fossils in this bed can be traced to current species. One family was coming out of the season, and they were finishing up the trip and the lodges were closing. As they were coming along the trails that runs along at the bottom of burgess"s path there had been a rock fall and there were some stones and rocks all over the trail. Husband got off the horse and cleaned the shales off the trail so horses wouldn"t stumble on them. As husband picked the shales up, he found impressions of animals on the shales. He became interested in them and he worked in a museum came back another season and started at the bottom of the burgess shales.
