Whereas, influence refers to the actual exercise of power. Positional power: power derived from office or rank in an organization. Based on authority assosciated with a position or a formal role in a job. Powerful in the short term, uses power to influence. Based on the capacity to provide rewards to others (rewards, raises and bonuses). Extensive use of rewards can weakened the power associated.
