Bronislaw malinowski and margaret mead were two of the earliest anthropologists to study human sexuality. But since their pioneering studies, anthropologists have paid very little attention to sexuality. Before the 1970"s, sexuality was considered to be taboo subject. Most people are uncomfortable talking about their sex lives and their feelings about sexuality. This is especially the case if their sexuality sits outside of the norms of a culture (gay or lesbian) Homosexuality: sexual attraction to persons of the same sex. Only recently has society accepted that homosexuality is not a disease but simply another sexual preference. Western cultures typically define it as simply attraction to another person, while ignoring sexual orientation and identity. Sexual orientation: the biological and psychological make up of an individual. Sexual identity: the identity a person takes based on his or her sexual preference in the 1880"s it was considered sinful and abnormal behaviour.
