Document Summary

Plant bio notes jan 5th , 7th and 8th. Tell us about the evolution of the earth. Clothing (made of cotton, therefore containing cellulose which is a polysaccharide of glucose) Co2 + h2o c6h12o6 + o2. Have cell walls made of a polysaccharide of glucose. But some have walls made of galactose (carrageenans found in foods with jelly- like consistencies) *know the difference between eukaryotes and prokaryotes as it applies to photosynthetic organisms. Fungi and cyanobacteria are plants, but they aren"t in the kingdom plantae. Fungi are not photosynthetic, but they do have cell walls = plant. Why do we study plants: disregarding prokaryotes, they form 90% of the living biomass on the planet. Essential to the ecology of land and sea: they feed us, clothe us, house us, aesthetics, make medicine. Botany: the scientific study of organisms that botanists are involved in, subjects accepted in botanical journals. In this case similarity does not equal relationship.
