Consequences: we should promote good consequences & avoid bad ones, for all concerned, in the long run. Fairness / justice: we should make sure that good & bad consequences are distributed fairly, we should pay our debts & treat like cases alike. Rights & duties: we should protect rights & perform duties. Character / virtue: we should consider what kind of people we want to be & what examples we want to set. Civil law jurisdictions: originated in ancient rome. France & most of europe, louisianan, quebec: originated in england. The only civil law jurisdiction in canada is quebec. Public law includes constitutional law, criminal law, administration & tax law: constitutional provides the basic rules of our political & legal system, administrative concerned with the creation & operation of administrative agencies, boards, commissions, criminal deals with offences against the state. Tax concerned with the rules that are used to collect money for public spending.
