INT 905 Study Guide - Quiz Guide: Shani, Ryerson University, Conflict Management
Document Summary
My personal definition of conflict is one that involves a disagreement between two opposing views of two different individuals and/or groups. A disagreement between the groups involves a difference in meaning perspectives which are values, beliefs, and/or assumptions of the parties regarding the subject matter (marsick, weaver, & yorks, 2014). As a result, conflict is deeply rooted in these meaning perspectives which was developed through the unconscious experiences of each individual. These experiences involve our personal upbringing, a transformative experience, and external factors, such as friends and coworkers. This resulting difference in meaning perspective transforms our understanding of the various interpretation of the subject matter, which is the main cause of conflict. In the end, conflict can either escalate into negative outcomes, such as a physical altercation or result in a positive outcome, a resolution and/or agreement of a solution.
