The medieval society would be nothing without christianity. 600-1000 early middle ages, 1000-1350 high middle ages, 1350-1450 - late. Classical period 600: latin was popular. Modern period (renaissance) 1450 : wanted to revive the classical period, introduction: western europe at the beginning of the early medieval period. Christianity held it together (was the glue). Became the unifying force everyone was baptized, went to mass. If you did not follow the rules of the church, you would have been excommunicated. Everyone was scared that if they did not follow the rules, they would go to hell. A compulsory society was forced upon and was not even thought about that there could be other beliefs.
