By now you have developed your own opinion about Updike's story. Has Porter changed or solidified your opinion about Updike's story? What else can you say about how Porter tries to frame and support his argument. Did you need to look up unfamiliar words? Did you look up Emerson? Did some aspect of Updike's story get ignored in Porter's essay?
