Introduction

Interest rate determine the amount of interest payments that saver will receive on their deposits. An increase in interest rates will make savings more attractive and should encourage saving. A cut in interest rates will reduce the reward of saving and will tend to discourage saving.

This is a measure of responsiveness of the demand for money to change in interest rates.
