1.Predict whether the following compounds could be successfully extracted into the aqueous reactions listed. Use the following steps:

a.Draw the missing conjugate acid or base “product” of the reaction (this must be done on a computer drawing program.

b.Use curved arrows to show the movement of the electrons Be sure to draw out electrons involved (lone pairs and each bond you will make or break).

c.Determine if the reaction favors the reactants or products. In order to do this, you may use a pKa table or cARIO analysis.

d.If a reaction favors the products, it is likely that an acid or base extraction would be possible. Determine if acid-base extraction of the organic is possible with sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid. For each scheme, write “acid extraction” or “base extraction” to indicate extraction is possible for each of the compounds. If products are not favored write "no reaction/not extracted.”
