Allergic reaction immune system response: determined by the degree of sensitization of the immune system not the drug dosage, severe rxns are rare, penicillin"s most common, sulfonamides (diuretics, antibiotics, and oral hypoglycemic agents) Idios = one"s own or peculiar: genertic predisposition causing uncommon drug response (uncommon, sykrasi = a mixing together, succinylcholine-induced paralysis, usually brief but may last for hours in genetically predisposed patients. Paradoxical effect: opposite of the intended drug response, ex benzodiazepines; excitement rather than sedation. Iatrogenic disease: disease caused by a physician or drugs, drugs for antipsychotic disorders can cause parkinson"s like symptoms.
