Document Summary

Often used in aba to identify the total number of times a target behavior occurred during an observation session. Self-injury (e. g. , head banging, hitting self on the head with hand, self-biting, and eye poking) Aggression (e. g. , hitting, kicking, pushing, and biting others) Observe for a length of time called a session. Tally the number of times the target behavior occurs. At the end of the observation session, count the total number of occurrences (this is the frequency). The rate of responding is the conversion of the total number of occurrences (frequency) per unit of time (e. g. , per minute of per hour) Responses per minute of self-injury or aggression. Only use frequency if the observation session length is always the same. 30 occurrences in a five-minute observation session are six per minute but in a 30-minute observation are one per minute. I observe three instances, and you observe four instances in a 30- minute observation.
