PHARMACOLOGY Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Mephentermine, Isoprenaline, Isoxsuprine
Document Summary
These are drugs with actions similar to that of adr or of sympathetic stimulation. They act directly as agonists on adrenoceptors . Adr, noradrenaline, isoprenaline (iso), phenylephrine, methoxamine, xylometazoline, salbutamol and many others. They act on adrenergic neurone to release na which then acts on the adrenoceptors tyramine, amphetamine. They act directly as well as indirectly ephedrine, dopamine, mephentermine. Cns stimulant: noradrenaline, ephedrine, dopamine, phenylephrine, methoxamine, mephentermine. Anorectic: amphetamine, fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine, sibutramine, xylometazoline, oxymetazoline, naphazoline, phenylephrine, psudoephidrine, amphetamine, dexamphetamine, methamphetamine, methylphenidate. The peripheral actions of adr in most tissues have been clearly differentiated into those mediated by a or b receptors depending on the predominant receptor type present in a given tissue. The receptor subtype, wherever defined, has been mentioned in parenthesis. The actions of a particular sympathomimetic amine depend on its relative activity at different types of adrenergic receptors. Important overall actions are: heart, adr increases heart rate by increasing automaticity of sa node.
