Document Summary

The purpose of this lab is to supplement our ideas regarding the function of organelles in the cell. To accomplish this we will separate several organelles in the cell through the process of differential centrifugation. With various organelles separated from the cell we will then test in various ways for their function and the presence of key molecules in those organelles. Organelles are like the organs within the cell with specific functions that are necessary for the cell to maintain function. Production of atp by phosphorylation of adp, responsible for cellular respiration, and cellular metabolism. Succinate dehydrogenase is a marker enzyme for mitochondria that catalyzes the reaction that reduces dcpip dye or coenzyme fad to form fumarate and another molecule based on the substrate.
