Document Summary

The role of privilege and power in creative expression. The baroque era refers to the period in western european music and art that lasted from. The baroque period was a time when some of the greatest composers and artists emerged, such as bach and rembrandt. Women were allowed to practice the arts but only if they came from a wealthy family and more than likely were taught music or art by their father. That is where the acceptance of creative women stopped. Women could receive lessons from famous composers like bach or be taught to paint by rembrandt, but when it came time for women to receive recognition for their talents, they were overlooked by their male counterparts. This journal will analyze how the dynamics of privilege and power played a role in women"s creative expression during the baroque era. The two creative women i will discuss are artemisia gentileschi (159 1653) and barbara.
