Document Summary

Trade-offs between selection pressures depends on many other factors (specifics of trade-offs, nature of genetic variation, whether there"s variation in pool of population) We will look at the overall trade-off between survival and fecundity. The table which we laid out the survival and fecundity of each age that an organism might have through its lifespan. In column labelled survival: we would have a declining function from birth to age (x) The life table is a good framework to think about changes in survival or fecundity over the course of the organism"s lifespan and what effects those would have on the overall average reproductive success. In another scenario, the organism does the opposite. The organism does not survive past the age of 1 in return for increased reproduction: the average lifetime reproductive success would also be 2 offspring per individual over the course of their lifetime. In this case, it has the same net reproductive success as the organisms from earlier.
