Changes its name to the superior rectal artery which supplies the superior of the rectum: blood from the git drains into the portal system. The superior mesenteric vein joins with the splenic vein and drain into the portal vein. The inferior mesenteric vein joins with the splenic vein. Parasympathetic from vagus nerve to the foregut and midgut and from pelvic splanchnics to the hindgut. Visceral afferents for everything until the mid-sigmoid follows sympathetic fibres, so refers pain to t6-l2 dermatomes, i. e midline of anterior abdominal wall (t6-9 foregut, t8-12 midgut, t12-l2 hindgut). Visceral afferents for everything after the mid-sigmoid follow parasympathetic fibres, so refers pain to s2-4 dermatomes, in the perineal region. Pelvis: the iliopectineal line, the pelvic inlet, the width from the acetabulum to the pubic symphysis, females: width> acetabulum, males: wdith=acetabulum.
