Pharisees - deciphered the mishna - wrote the gemara. were separatist and did not want to live in multi cultured municipalities. Brought the idea of the afterlife - new babylonian ideas, and the resurrection of the dead. Sorta became rabbi"s after destruction of the second temple. They studied the torah - new interpretations of the oral torah adding ideas"s of the era they were in(afterlife). Sadducees - they opposed the pharisees and followed the oral torah. They were people who took care of the temple. In the end the pharisees took over because they were modernizing their religion with the then new ideas. The written torah are the 5 books of moses. The oral torah is the laws passed down from god to moses that were not recorded on paper.
