Document Summary

Last week we concluded with cell communication (cell signaling and ecm). Cell-cell interaction: they aren"t touching, but they are still interacting through their adhesions/junctions. Exocytosis (exiting the cell) & endocytosis (entering the cell) are parallel to each other. Exocytotic pathway: er golgi apparatus secretory granules plasma membrane. Endocytotic pathway: early endosome late endosome lysosome. Receptors are there so there is selection (ligand). *peptide signals define the destination of the protein. Cargo: proteins that are going to be transported. M6p tells the sugar to stay in a particular zone of the cell. #6 - golgi apparatus: proteins can be secreted from here in 2 ways: constitutive secretion pathway: can not be controlled or regulated, regulated process: release is regulated condition by signal transduction pathway. Example: insulin - is released when a high level of glucose binds on the beta pancreatic cells (which are full of insulin) and induces their secretion. Think about when you eat is when your cells eat nutrients.
