Interest groups are organized groups of people that make policy-related appeals to government. There are many di erent types of interest groups. Pluralism: theory that all interests should be free to compete for in uence of government, because if they are they will balance each other out. Contrast with corporatism: state gives certain groups an expanded political role. State gives certain groups a privileged role in the political system. This is a core component of fascist government. This can be a problem, because when there is not one organization governments can be choose to give the rights to one group but not another. Mass mobilization: large public protests that are highly visible. Most e ective when the raise awareness and public support. Grassroots lobbying: a group mobilizes its membership to contact a government o cials. Raises awareness of the group and its concerns. Litigation: using court cases to change the law.
